About Kundalini Yoga and Meditation
Yoga is the union of the body, mind and spirit. Kundalini is energy; it is the energy of consciousness. Awakening the Kundalini energy allows a person to become totally and completely aware. Although all yoga styles will raise the Kundalini energy, this specific yoga style has many benefits. To begin with, anyone who can breathe can practice this style of yoga. It is accessible to beginners and individuals with any physical limitations and all fitness levels. It can also offer challenges and depth to experienced practicioners of all yoga disciplines. Where other yoga styles focus on difficult postures, Kundalini Yoga emphasizes conscious breathing, meditation and focusing inward through movement and stillness.

Different aspects of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation practice include:
Asanas - Postures that stimulate specified parts of the body, such as "easy pose," which is sitting with legs crossed, spine straight, shoulders relaxed.
Bhandas - Locks of specific areas of the body, such as "root lock," which entails contracting all the muscles in the pelvic region.
Kriyas - Sets of yoga postures with a specific intended outcomes. There are hundreds of kriyas with a variety of physical and mental benefits.
Mantras - Chants of powerful vibrations for guidance and to focus mental activity. An example is Sat Nam. Sat means truth and Nam means identity, together it means truth is my identity and the essence of God is within me. This mantra has a strong balancing effect and awakens the soul.
Mental Focus - There are various locations to focus the mind, an example is between the eyebrows at the "third eye." Almost all of the practice is done with the eyes closed and a specified mental focus.
Mudras - Hand postures, such as gian mudra with thumb and the tip of the index finger touching. This mudra is a meditation for wisdom.
Pranayama - Breathing exercises, such as rapid breathing called "breathe of fire” and long deep breathing.
Relaxation - Relax to music and guided body meditation while resting on the back in "corpse pose". By relaxing you will learn to de-stress and integrate all the work done in the yoga set(s).

Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga of awareness and the practice of Kundalini Yoga creates changes on many levels. It goes beyond physical exercise and offers the practioner peace of mind, awareness of the physical body and nourishment for the soul. Kundalini Yoga helps strengthen the nervous and glandular systems.
